Before you start
Your qFIT test kit should contain a small plastic sample collection bottle with a grooved stick attached to the lid, an instruction leaflet and a pre-addressed Freepost return envelope.
- You can do the test any day – there’s no need to avoid certain foods or medications
- Don’t collect a sample if you have diarrhoea, constipation, or haemorrhoids that are bleeding. Instead, wait until symptoms settle.
- Avoid collecting during or just after your period
- If you make a mistake while collecting the sample, contact Inuvi for a replacement kit. Don’t try to wash and reuse the bottle.
- Write your name and date of birth on the sample bottle label
- Write the date you’re collecting the sample
- Read through all the instructions first
Step-by-step guide
Step 1: Prepare your toilet
Place something in the toilet bowl to catch your poo: a clean container, liner bag or clean newspaper spread over the water. Make sure urine doesn’t contaminate the sample.
Step 2: Collect your sample
Twist the cap to open the sample tube. The tube contains liquid preservatives. Do not pour this away. Collect your poo sample by scraping the green stick along the poo until all the grooves are covered. Only a small amount of poo is required for testing. Please do not add extra.

Step 3: Seal the bottle
Clearly write your name, date of birth and the date the sample was taken on the sample container.
N = name
A = date of birth
D = date sample was taken
Please note: the laboratory is unable to test any samples that do not have all the information above.
Step 4: Clean up
Dispose of the poo as normal and wash your hands thoroughly.
Step 5: Return your sample
Place the labelled sample container into the pouch provided. Place the pouch, along with the insert, into the transport box. Place the transport box into the orange pre-addressed return envelope.
Step 6: Tracking your sample
The enclosed envelope has a unique tracking label attached to it. Before posting the envelope, please make a note of your unique tracking code beneath the barcode.
What to expect after the test
You should receive your results within five working days straight into your Perci Health record.
Normal result: This means that no blood was detected, so no further action is needed.
Abnormal result: This means that traces of blood were found in your sample. Depending on what this result is your GP may suggest a repeat qFIT test or other investigations, which may include a colonoscopy. An abnormal result does not mean you have cancer. Many abnormal results are caused by other conditions, such as haemorrhoids and non-cancerous bowel growths (polyps).
